Shot depends on the choke. What is your choke?

I've owned my 88 for several years now and haven't experienced any problems. So the "max" number before I experience a malfunction is hopefully a long way off! I haven't fired any magnum loads in it but have shot plenty of slugs. It's deadly accurate with them too.

What is the max # of rounds any of you guys have fired out of this gun before you started having any serious malfunctions? Have any of you fired many magnum or slug shells through this?

Have you ever fired a 12 guage pump or double barrel before? It delivers a sharper recoil than that of a centerfire rifle but is easily controllable IMO. What is your son's age and weight? Experience

James26: DON'T EVEN THINK OF PUTTING 3 1/2 IN [ULTI-MAG SHELLS] IN YOU MAVERICK !!!
If the Mossberg/ Maverick barrel isn't stamped as capable of anything more than a standard

matt: how can you tell what the capacity is? generally, the length. Figure each shell is nearly 3 inches long and you can see how a 7-shot mag (compared to your 5 shot) would look significantly

This was the first gun I ever bought... Bought it at wal-mart back when they still had a pair. I have the 28" model and will never sell it. I've probably put 3000 rounds through it and didn't

If you go to Mossberg's website I have discovered a couple of wood stocks that they sell that they say will fit the 500, 500A1, ect... then at the bottom of the list is the Maverick 88. Guess they finaly do have wood stocks for it.

I've used my 88 for target and security (I have the 88 with the 18.5" barrel). The mere sight of a shotgun plus the ever present *chu-chink* of the pump makes it the best for the price (especially with '00' buckshot!)

I've got the 20" model, it looks exactly like the model pictured on this site. It's definitely a tactical design versus a hunting model. The open cylinder choke supports that thought. But

I have an 88 myself. The 8 shot sevurity model. It's been 100% reliable. I've used it for various things, trap shooting, deer hunting, but mostly I use it for an any situation which may arise

Tigwelder won't steer you wrong. The simple fact that you said you use it quite rarely provokes me to suggest the 88 off the bat. It is a lighter gun than say a mossberg 500 (i haven't tested

I think you'd be happy with either shotgun. The Remington is going to cost you a bit more but will basically offer you the same options and performance. You can't get the 88 with a wood stock,

I am wavering between purchasing a Mossberg Maverick or a Remington 870. I only plan on using it 2 or 3 times per year to hunt dove and an occasional trip to the range (home protection as well).

If you go to the manufacturers website, many have a serial number look up service. It doesn't matter what state you reside in for that service. What is it you're trying to find out? I might be able to give you some information with the make, model and S/N.

yea, well a second gun costs $150 for a maverick. a second barrel costs at least $150, but you can get the 'slugger' from Mossberg with the Weaver rail. Either way I'm waiting on
